track for today… sievehead 'energy'

Shake off any semblance of New Year Blues with the feisty no wave/garage/birthday party screw-up sounds of 'Energy' by Sheffield's Sievehead. The track is one of six on their demo, released a while ago by Evil Hoodoo and sold out on cassette but still available for free online.

track for today… brian chippendale and greg saunier 'side a'

'Side A' is one of two tracks – I'll leave it up to you to work out what the other one is called – from the eponymous Brian Chippendale and Greg Saunier album on the Brooklyn-based Famous Class label. That's Brian Chippendale of of Lightning Bolt, and Greg Saunier of Deerhoof. A match made in heaven, and a breakneck cavalcade of improvised drumming superbness.

track for today… mugstar and damo suzuki 'waken to the night'

Here's a track from an album due out in mid-January 2015 from Important RecordsStart From Zero by Mugstar and Damo Suzuki, a record of an improvised 2012 live performance in Liverpool. As well as 'Waken To The Night' it will feature three more tracks. Mugstar are a pretty fine foil for the improv vocal meanderings of Suzuki, the former providing their own familiar rhythmic muscularity but allowing enough space to accommodate the latter.

track for today… perturbator 'humans are such easy prey'

track for today… sleaford mods 'live at supersonic festival 2014'

Some superb footage of both the festival and the band here... Sleaford Mods doing their inimitable, excellent thing at the idiosyncratic, wonderful Supersonic Festival in 2014. They were on at 12.30 am, I had headed to bed before then, so I'm happy to see this.
